I won't be needing this advice for a few months, but I'm nursing my first and I just don't know what to expect.
First, I exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months. Now I'm introducing solids. I love breastfeeding and plan to continue until Anya is at least 1. I work full time, so I pump 3 times a day at work and that is draining. I can't imagine at 1 all of a sudden wanting Anya to stop BFing. However, I really don't know if I can continue to pump much past a year. (I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it).
Anyway, if I reduce my pumping to 1 x per day at work after Anya is a year old, but still BF her at night and weekends, would I expect my supply to dwindle? I'd love to be able to do this as long as she'd like - but I hate pumping.
Thanks for any advice/insight! |

I'm sorry that nobody has responded to your question yet. I really don't know the answer, but i think if you cut back a little on BFing but don't stop completely, your body will self-adjust to produce the right amount of milk and when it's needed.
My little guy doesn't nurse frequently during the day (every 3-4 hours), but at night I'm guessing he nurses every hour or so. My breasts are definately fuller at night becuase of this. Somehow my body just knows when to produce more milk (nighttime). Your body will adjust too, producing less milk during the day when you are at work and more at night whenever you are at home and nursing Anya.
I hope I was somewhat helpful. Maybe someone with more insight and experience will come along and give you a better answer. |
